From a Humble Start to a Global Presence

Founded in 1973 in New York City, Corcoran has grown into one of the most recognized and respected names in real estate, representing exceptional homes and remarkable people around the world. Our reach now extends across North America, Europe, and the Caribbean, with a shared commitment to excellence and authenticity that defines every Corcoran office.

My Name is Barbara

A self-described straight-D student named Barbara Corcoran, just 23 years old, founds an eponymous residential real estate company in a tiny office on the Upper East Side of Manhattan with seven eager agents and a $1,000 loan.

1973

Made in Manhattan

Corcoran grows beyond the Upper East Side, opening a downtown office. The Upper West Side office follows in 1989. Today, the company serves Manhattan from the Cloisters to Battery Park, with more than a thousand agents.

1983

Sale of the Century

In the driest days of a historic real-estate drought in New York City, Corcoran concocts a radical word-of-mouth “One Day Sale,” discounting 87 apartments in 17 buildings, and putting every last one of them into contract in the span of 24 hours.

1991

New Developments

Corcoran partner Pamela Liebman, who joined the company as an agent in 1984, founds Corcoran Group Marketing, a division dedicated to the planning, design, marketing, and sales of exceptional residential development projects.

1995

Home on the Web

Corcoran rolls into the Information Age with the debut of Corcoran.com. In 2003, lauded for the site’s elegance and ease of use, Corcoran wins the Web Marketing Association’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Web Development.

1995

Brooklyn Bridged

Corcoran crosses the East River with 30 agents in three Brooklyn offices. Today, the company boasts 350 agents in seven offices, $3.2 billion in sales, and a hand in 40 percent of the borough’s residential real estate deals.

1998

CEO for a New Century

Corcoran becomes part of Realogy. Barbara Corcoran taps Pamela Liebman to become the company’s new president and CEO. In 2007, Liebman makes the first of Crain’s New York’s lists of the most powerful women in New York City.

2000

A Place in the Sun

Corcoran plants a flag in Palm Beach, acquiring two of the area’s most respected real estate brokerages. And in 2005, the company adds to its Florida story with the purchase of one of the top firms in Delray Beach.

2003

Hamptons Homecoming

After acquiring a pair of prominent brokerage firms, Corcoran debuts in the Hamptons with some 200 agents. In 2006, the company doubles its East End reach with the purchase of the venerable Allan M. Schneider Associates.

Bigger in the Big Apple

Corcoran bolsters its dominance in the New York real estate market when it acquires the city’s acknowledged leader in residential rentals, Citi Habitats, and welcomes the brokerage’s 800 talented agents and staff to its growing family.

2004

Good Day Sunshine

Corcoran Group Marketing and the Sunshine Group merge to become the Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group, NYC’s top new-dev firm, repping to such icons as 56 Leonard, 220 Central Park South, and 15 Hudson Yards.

Words to Live By

Corcoran defines its inclusive worldview through the sophisticated “Live Who You Are” campaign, which memorably ties familiar real estate terminology to a series of bespoke portraits by renowned photographer Tina Barney.

We Give Together

Corcoran launches Corcoran Cares to encourage agents and staffers to take part in the company’s charitable initiatives. To date, the program has raised more than $1 million for cancer research, elder care, and more.

You Really ‘Like’ Us

Corcoran triumphs over its rivals on social media, building a large and devoted following by consistently delivering compelling content. And the brand’s dominant presence on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and others, continues to this day.

Lens of a Legend

Corcoran’s “Live Who You Are” ad campaign culminates with a dozen indelible celebrity portraits – including singer Jimmy Buffet, surfer Quincy Davis, and prima ballerina Misty Copeland – by the one and only Annie Leibovitz.

2014

Higher Intelligence

Corcoran opens Agent Studio in Manhattan, enriching the agent experience with a huge catalog of free classes and workshops on all aspects of the real estate business, technology, marketing, social media, and personal growth.

2017

No Place Like Corcoran

Corcoran captures hearts with ‘Be Home.’ Through irresistible TV spots, print advertisements, social media placements, and billboards, this joyful campaign smartly celebrates the brand’s people-first approach to business of real estate.

2018

Ready for the World

Corcoran signs its first affiliate, Corcoran Premier Properties in Orlando, Florida, launching an ambitious plan to share its respected name and values with carefully selected affiliates in desirable places across the country and around the world.

2019

Lease and Thank You

New York City residential rental titan Citi Habitats moves under the Corcoran brand umbrella. This merger of powerhouse sister companies dramatically bolsters Corcoran’s dominance in the Big Apple’s fiercely competitive rental market.

2020

Here Comes the Sun

In the British Virgin Islands, Corcoran BVI becomes the brand's first international affiliate. It's the first of several Caribbean launches for Corcoran, including Puerto Rico, the Turks & Caicos, the Bahamas, and the Cayman Islands.

2021

They Grow Up So Fast

With a stupendous 98-percent surge in sales between 2020 and 2021, the Corcoran brand handily claims the top spot in the T3 Sixty Real Estate Almanac's list of the fastest growing franchise names in the residential real estate business.

2022

Europe or Bust

Serving the picturesque Lake Garda region of Northern Italy, venerable brokerage Immobilaire Magri becomes Corcoran Magri Properties. The auspicious launch marks the American real estate brand's European debut.

2023

Passionate Leadership.

In 2023, Cliff Rego brought Manhattan’s leading name in Real Estate to Canada, launching Corcoran Horizon Realty.
